Raising a flag of another nation!!

I was very surprised and shocked last Friday to see the Sudanese Defense Minister holding the Egyptian flag at the celebrations held after Heglig was liberated after being occupied for ten days by South Sudan.

The above unusual raised many questions in my mind on whether it was simply a coincidence or an improvisation on the part of the Minister or if it was associated the call of Just Peace Forum of Al-Tayeb Mustafa, President Al Basir's uncle who advocates unity with Egypt.

I have absolutely nothing against Egypt or Egyptian participation in the celebrations of liberating part of the Sudanese territory!  Yet other questions were raised also on this occasion. It seemed unusual to see a Sudanese holding the Egyptians flag at this particular occasion.  While in fact he is not just a Sudanese citizen but rather the defense minister!. Are we going to educate our next generation to be proud of carrying the flag of another nation? Are we going to educate our next generation to be proud of another country of which he or she is not a citizen? I wonder whether our dignity has vanished, the dignity and pride of a hundred years of independence. I wonder what would happen to us in the future. Would we have to try and become part of another nation? Would we have to speak and hold a flag on behalf of another country against our own?

Between the lines

By the way, what happened with the issue of Halayib!? Did the government abandon this case, even after the new development in the Egyptian presidency!?

·       Such attitudes should be brought to account because they send different and dangerous signals even if they are not intended and take place by coincidence!!
