In commemoration of the Brown Nightingale

The music community and cultural arena in particular and the whole country in general were deeply shocked today at the death of renowned singer Zaidan Ibrahim, who passed away today morning in Cairo where he was taken for treatment.

Zaidan Ibrahim was born in 1943, in Al Abbasiya neighbourhood in Omdrman. He began his studies at Kadugli basic schools where his father used to work. Then he turned back to complete his elementary and secondary studies in Omdurman and then he studied music in the Institute of Music and Drama for a year.

The singer Zaidan Ibrahim was known as "The Brown Nightingale" because of his unique and distinct voice. He was a singer and a composer at the same time.

Zaidan has enriched the Sudanese community and the humanity at large with a sophisticated art of singing and composing.

He was also a duet with the late singer Abdulmuem Al-Khaldi in singing the songs of Osman Al-Shafie.

His first performance participation outside the country was in Egypt in 1971 and he performed also in many countries such as Libya, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Chad, Ethiopia Eritrea, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Sultanate of Oman, Yemen, Somalia, Djibouti, UK, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, and United States of America. He had more than twenty music albums. He was awarded the silver medal of the Arts and Literature of the State in 1976.

It was with great sadness we heard of the passing away of the beloved singer Zaidan.

Your songs bring the Sudanese people wings. Your absence will make the whole country a desolate wasteland. But you are not dead yet because you will always sing in their souls.

"Our sympathy is extended not just to his immediate family but to the thousands of fans across the country." It is a great loss to the whole country.
