Sudan not ready for the 7th Meeting of AJOC: AU

The government of South Sudan has said that it was informed by the African Union (AU), that the government of Sudan, component of the Abyei Joint Oversight Committee (AJOC), has asked for the postponement of the AJOC meeting, which was scheduled to be held tomorrow Thursday to take major decisions in relation to the full implementation of the resolutions of AU Peace and Security Council, arguing that they are still finalizing the list of their nominations for the positions of Deputy Chief Administrator and the Speaker of Abyei Area Council.

In a press release, issued by the office of the South Sudan’ president and signed by AJOC’ Co-Chair of South Sudan, Luka Biong, the government of South Sudan expressed deep regret that there is no new date suggested by the government of Sudan for the next meeting of AJOC. 

“The government of South Sudan did not receive any notification from the government of Sudan about its intention of changing its earlier nominations”, the statement read.  Pointing out that the process of finalizing the nominations will take more time, urging the government of Sudan to finalize its list of nominations and to share it with the government of South Sudan as soon as possible for immediate action.

The statement went further to affirm the readiness of the South Sudan for the nominations’ positions, adding that it has even acted on the list of nominations of the government of Sudan s per its letter dated on 24th June 2011.
