Journalists protest continued confiscation of Almidan

A number of journalists and human rights activists staged today a peaceful demonstration in front of the Press and Publications Council, protesting the continued confiscation of Almidan newspaper that has been confiscated and prevented from printing for more than a month.

The editor-in-chief of Almidan newspaper, Madiha Abdullah, handed over a protest memo to the Secretary-General of the Council, El-Obied Almarwah, while the journalists and activists were carrying placards condemning the continued confiscation of the newspaper for more than a month and preventing it from printing by the National Security and Intelligence Services (NISS), forcing the newspaper to incur heavy financial losses.

Madiha pointed out that the memo called on the Press Council to play its assigned role in protecting the journalists and newspapers and to put an end to restrictions on press and journalists, as well as the pre-censorship of the press and the ban on freedom of expression imposed by the NISS, urging the parties aggrieved by the press to follow legal channels.
